President's Message

Welcome to United Nations University (UNU), where our mission is to empower individuals through education, research, and collaboration to address the world’s most pressing challenges. As we look to the future, we also draw inspiration from the past.

The rich history of higher education institutions like the University of Bologna, the oldest university in the world founded in 1088, and the esteemed University of Oxford and University of Cambridge, both with centuries-old legacies of academic excellence, remind us of the transformative power of education. These universities have shaped the intellectual landscape for generations, and today, they continue to lead the way in global scholarship, research, and innovation.

At UNU, we believe that education is the cornerstone of progress, and we are committed to providing opportunities for students from all backgrounds to access world-class learning and contribute to shaping a better future. Just as these historic institutions have fostered critical thinkers and global leaders, UNU strives to carry this legacy forward, equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to make a meaningful impact in the modern world.

Through our global network, we foster innovation, leadership, and cross-disciplinary solutions to advance peace, sustainability, and human development. In our effort to encourage and promote local talent, we are excited to announce that 20% of our total graduate student admissions will be reserved for American citizens through the President Scholar Award. This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting American excellence and ensuring that talented individuals from the USA have the opportunity to thrive within our esteemed institution.

As we navigate an increasingly complex world, UNU remains dedicated to providing transformative educational experiences that prepare our students to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact on the global stage. By building on the traditions of universities like Bologna, Oxford, and Cambridge, we continue to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation while shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

With deep appreciation and commitment,

Kris Girish
